DUHS Collection

Around the beginning of my sophomore year of high school, one specific class gave a project. It was a senior-level communications class that required a decent level of computer knowledge. This project was to design motion graphics to showcase our school's spirit during Spirit Week. As a result of this clip, I was offered a spot on the school's news production team. Since then, I've created short animations to run as fun introductions to the news program with the last one in May 2023.

DUHS Collection: Door

Oct, 2020

No.2 Titled "Door" was an attempt to play round with ray tracing technologies. Ray tracing is a method of computer rendering which simulates how light bounces around an environment.

This method can help create stunning results, the downside to this is it takes time for the computer to calculate. Many of your favorite 3D animation studios like Pixar and DreamWorks use this method.

DUHS Collection: Cube

Jan, 2021

This time, I asked myself What if we show what happens behind the camera? No.5 "Cube" explores real-time lighting and shadow in depth with the use of a animated model from sketchfab.com.

Unlike ray tracing which simulate light as accurately as possible, real time render technologies look at a scene as a whole guesses what it should look like. It's much faster but can be a bit wrong at times.

DUHS Collection: Classroom

Aug, 2021

No.6 "Classroom" is one of my favorites, being featured on the site before it was CabinCrown. The goal of this one is to capture the spirit of our classmates and highlight several student groups by means of an airplane.

Much of the original animation was cut due to time constraints, and would have included the library, references to culinary, science, band, choir, art & clay.

DUHS Collection: Halloween 22

No.15 "Halloween 22" is about the students. The overall style of this one was inspired by the senior class' Homecoming float. Every pumpkin featured here is an individual student submission from a school-wide "pumpkin painting" contest. Unfortunately many of these are under represented due on my part.

Up until this point, all renders have been made with the free animation software Blender. Unreal Engine 5.0 was utilized in attempt to make the Halloween deadline.

DUHS Collection: Reading Revolution

March, 2023

No.18 "Reading Revolution" is a combination of two animations. One for February with the cookies, sugar grass, and cherry willows. And the other reminding students about the school-wide March reading challenge held in the Media Center. Out of the 74 recommended books for this challenge No.18 features a random selection of 43.

Hiding not so inconspicuously around the books are characters of the Nickelodeon's SpongeBob Squarepants, adverting The SpongeBob Musical preformed by distinct students.

Closing

This marks the last entry of the DUHS Collection. I've had so much fun working on it for three wonderful years. To the AV and High school staff, thank you for giving students like me the opportunity to grow and nurture our talents. Thank you Ethan and Owen for putting up with the rest of us for so long and the many late nights editing. There literately would not be a program without you.

And to those who have watched since the beginning, thank you for supporting us and letting the DUHS Collection and The Morning Announcements run together as long as the have.
