General Discussion Public · 1 member Join David Wadley November 13, 2024 Architectural Exploration: Acoustics The architectural topic I selected to learn a bit more about was acoustics: how sound interacts with a space. My first source from the bowls of my school's research center was a book titled Architectural Acoustics: Principles And Practice by William J. Cavanaugh & Joseph A. Wilkes. Published October 2, 1998. The book began by exploring many fundamental concepts relating to sound namely what sound is and how it works. The book went into very much depth regarding legal coding pertaining to sound, citing examples of commonly used construction and attenuation materials to control sound. Systems like ductwork, HVAC, floor systems, and dividing elements that can be problematic in containing sound if not properly installed or treated, along with remedies for such issues. Principles And Practice notably includes several architectural case studies and respective plans relating in some way to the presented concepts. This is the largest difference between the types of… See More 0 0 Comments 47 Views comments debug Write a comment... Write a comment... Show more

During my high school days, I was part of a project to get major school and district events to the students. This is the culmination of that work. DUHS Collection Around the beginning of my sophomore year of high school, one specific class gave a project. It was a senior-level communications class that required a decent level of computer knowledge. This project was to design motion graphics to showcase our school's spirit during Spirit Week. As a result of this clip, I was offered a spot on the school's news production team. Since then, I've created short animations to run as fun introductions to the news program with the last one in May 2023. Thank you, Mr. Corn. Timeline DUHS Collection: DUS The official first issue of the series! DUHS Collection: Door Oct, 2020 No.2 Titled "Door" was an attempt to play round with ray tracing technologies. Ray tracing is a method of computer rendering which simulates how light bounces around an environment. This method can help create stunning results, the downside to this is it takes time for the computer to calculate. Many of your favorite 3D animation studios like Pixar and DreamWorks use this method. DUHS Collection: Cube Jan, 2021 This time, I asked myself What if we show what happens behind the camera? No.5 "Cube" explores real-time lighting and shadow in depth with the use of a animated model from sketchfab.com. Unlike ray tracing which simulate light as accurately as possible, real time render technologies look at a scene as a whole guesses what it should look like. It's much faster but can be a bit wrong at times. DUHS Collection: Classroom Aug, 2021 No.6 "Classroom" is one of my favorites, being featured on the site before it was CabinCrown. The goal of this one is to capture the spirit of our classmates and highlight several student groups by means of an airplane. Much of the original animation was cut due to time constraints, and would have included the library, references to culinary, science, band, choir, art & clay. Check out the Drawing Desk to learn about 😮 the second version! DUHS Collection: Flying Potato This was a fun one. Our editor came with a student's request to present around 'a bunch of flying potato at the beach.' No.7 is a digital backdrop for use during post-production and it is a real challenge to animate and time a flock of anything ESPECIALLY in a loop. DUHS Collection: Clock Sep, 2021 No.8 "clock" is a play on what we all loved doing at 5 am. Getting ready for school! In all seriousness it was fun to explore room staging and my excuse of "decorating." Although, it may be nice to use it as a backdrop in the feature. DUHS Collection: Sock-y Halloween Oct, 2021 No.9 was a treat. 😀 A spooky experimental night scene with the much more lighthearted goal of reminding students to turn in new pairs of socks to donate for the homeless during 'Socktober.' This is a yearly joint venture between us and our friendly rivals in the next town over. It's a tradition I think should be in place everywhere. DUHS Collection: Library Dec, 2021 The end of this year was dedicated to blessing the needy, with No 10. "Library" featuring a giving tree, where students could grab a tag, purchase the item or items listed, and place the wrapped gift underneath. All gifts were then donated to our community. DUHS Collection: Snowflakes Jan, 2022 No.11 "Snowflakes" is a simple one-- a 3D snowflake simulation on a snowy mountain. Not every project has to be a show stopper. Sure if you have the time and budget for a stunning work Go for it! But if not, sometimes a simple sim and stock images go a long way DUHS Collection: Cardboard Stylized May, 2022 No.12 Is my all time fav. I love the way it turned out, and I loved putting it all together. Its a kinetic sculptural diorama with each prop either referencing a school group, past animation, goal, or a personal memory with someone. This one was an instant success with everyone and I wouldn't be surprised if it's still playing today. DUHS Collection: Homecoming Sep, 2022 I've said this before, and I'll say it again; this is another one I loved working on. Commissioned by the yearbook advisor, "Homecoming" depicts a flyover of the school and grounds while commemorating the people who make our district home; our community. Its members who serve the students, as well as the businesses who financially support them. DUHS Collection: Halloween 22 Oct, 2022 No.15 "Halloween 22" is about the students. The overall style of this one was inspired by the senior class' Homecoming float. Every pumpkin featured here is an individual student submission from a school-wide "pumpkin painting" contest. Unfortunately many of these are under represented due on my part. Up until this point, all renders have been made with the free animation software Blender. Unreal Engine 5.0 was utilized in attempt to make the Halloween deadline. PLACEHOLDER DUHS Collection: Reading Revolution March, 2023 No.18 "Reading Revolution" is a combination of two animations. One for February with the cookies, sugar grass, and cherry willows. And the other reminding students about the school-wide March reading challenge held in the Media Center. Out of the 74 recommended books for this challenge No.18 features a random selection of 43. Hiding not so inconspicuously around the books are characters of the Nickelodeon's SpongeBob Squarepants, adverting The SpongeBob Musical preformed by distinct students. Closing This marks the last entry of the DUHS Collection. I've had so much fun working on it for three wonderful years. To the AV and High school staff, thank you for giving students like me the opportunity to grow and nurture our talents. Thank you Ethan and Owen for putting up with the rest of us for so long and the many late nights editing. There literately would not be a program without you. And to those who have watched since the beginning, thank you for supporting us and letting the DUHS Collection and The Morning Announcements run together as long as the have. Drawing Desk See some behind-the-scenes of your favorite episodes along with concepts and designs that never hit the big screen. A note on ep. "Classroom" Our district has been known as "Chieftans" longer than I know, and if the client allows little hidden 'easter eggs' for engagement, that's wonderful-- just so it is hidden and not the accidental mispelling of the most important word. Clasroom No. 2 It's been common for many intros in the series to play for weeks at a time, sometimes staying in rotation for months. Because of this, intros like "Classroom" have multiple versions depending on when they air in the year. "Easter Eggs" are little hidden secrets or references found in media. -- and they're just as fun as real ones~ Go check out your favorite movies, video games, and TV shows again, and I bet you'll find some! DUHS Collection: Switch Nov, 2020 No.3 "Switch" was an attempt at a fully 3D scene by use of a virtual camera moving through space. This camera tracked the progression of a glowing wire from a giant light switch to a logo. Rating was (unsurprisingly) poor during a test screening. DUHS Collection: Click Remastered Aug, 2022 No.13 "Click Remastered" was intended to be an updated version of this series premiere, referencing commonly used applications: Google Workspace, Schoology, Powerschool, and Clever; and partnerships with local institutions. However, if something ISN’T broken, DON’T try and fix it. "Cardboard Stylized" was aired instead, and I'm glad for it.

Hi, I'm David! Learn about the author of Cabin Crown. About Hi, I'm David Wadley I'm a designer, 3D animator, and architecture student based in southern Michigan I believe that design in all its forms is a tool to help real people in need, not a marketing gimmick or a way to make a quick buck. Good design can show off a person's individual style, preserve a cultural heritage, and bring people together. Or just bring a little joy.
